Adding tropical elements creates a vacation ambiance and who doesn’t love that. Think island greenery and patterns via wallpaper, prints and textures with motifs like tropical trees, pineapples, and leaves. Don’t forget the cocktail umbrellas.

While we like an open floor plan it is really helpful psychologically to have some sort of separation of these spaces so your mind knows what is for what. Take inventory on what you do in each of the spaces and how you can make this more conducive. Is this a place to relax and read? Make sure books are easy to reach and there is good lighting. Is this a place to work? Keeping things very structured and organized can make it easier to get things done!

Time for Wellness

Self care is officially in, and it’s about time. While you are working on separating spaces above, creating some “wellness pockets” in your house can be so helpful. We like to have a special quiet place to meditate and just sit and breathe; complete with blanket and comfy cushions, a water carafe with some added fruit to stay fancy and hydrated, hourglass sand timers as a lo fi way to set aside some time, and of course candles. Never ever underestimate the power of candles.

Natural textures are a great way to weave some tactile moments throughout your home. Some of the favorites are woods, jutes, limestones, and rattans that go so well with some of the other touches above. Handwoven, natural elements create calm and relaxation, and who doesn’t want more of that.

Curation is always a good thing, but don’t confuse that with perfection. Your living space should be a eclectic collection of things that bring you joy, so don’t be too precious about adding in those elements. Does it float your boat? Does it fit in your space? Don’t underestimate the power of bringing florals into your space. Flowers are usually $10-20 per arrangement and are a budget friendly way to add life, color and zen. Even better – get them from a local farmer’s market to shop small.
