Back to School Organization Tips

Chalk board with the words Back to School in cursive.

Going back to school isn’t easy for parents or students. Make your life easier with these back to school organization hacks we put together that will hopefully help ease the transition.

Command Center

Establish a command center. The center of this is a shared calendar. All you need for this is a dry erase calendar board and markers. Bonus points for color coding per child. Keep track of everyone’s schedule, appointments and deadlines on this board.

Create a Morning Routine Schedule

School mornings are the most hectic time of day in the majority of households. Minimize your stress by having a consistent morning routine schedule for the kiddos. Some examples of what to include; what time will everyone get up, is anyone showering, what’s for breakfast, what are they wearing etc etc. Establishing this routine will make your life so much easier in the long run.

Entryway

Start every day off right with an organized entryway or dump section. Ideally this would have a area per child and include a place to keep their backpack as well as things to remember (ie doctor’s notes and lunch boxes).

Outfits

Cut back the never-ending vacillating time of picking outfits the day of. Choose outfits for the week and store them in a closet organizer separated by day of the week to keep things easy peasy.

Freezer Meals

Stock your freezer with family-friendly freezer meals once a month. You’ll be so glad you did. Reach for these when you are in a pickle.

Snack Section

Create a snack section in your kitchen where kids can make DIY snack packs and pack their lunches. Bags, boxes, and bottles can all go here.

Sports Equipment

At the beginning of every week, pack sports equipment in a trunk organizer for all your little athletes.

Homework Station

All you need for this hack is a lazy susan with mason jars or a caddy to create a homework station with everything they need to complete their work. Think pens and pencils, stapler, paper clipcs and the like.

Library Box

Keep library books from getting lost with their own designated book box.

Screen Time

Program screen time for kids on devices at the beginning of each week and your future self will thank you.

Menu

Make your life easier by planning your meals out in advance and writing them on a displayed menu board.

Chore Board

If it isn’t written down, will it happen? A chore board helps everyone remember what they need to complete.
