Many people see those that are developmentally disabled as weak, but the truth is, the disabled are more willing to help than any other people around. They desire activities, and meaningful community volunteering. The major objective of the disabled is to form powerful relationships with those in their community; volunteering meets their expectations. They are eager to help and engage in competitive work so they can support those that are not disabled around them.

SCARC’s Harvest Home Programs were developed to help the disabled interact better with the community and to give them the help and support they need in order to volunteer and engage in the social circle of the community. Harvest Home Foods and Clothing Company provide the disabled with food and clothing in the Sussex County and utilizing the volunteer services of SCARC individuals. More than 50 disabled adults are served through this program, making life easier to handle for them and their families.

SCARC’s Harvest Home Clothing Company has thrift stores around the county where individuals can come purchase quality used clothes for little money. Harvest Home Clothing also meets the needs of fire victims who have lost everything in tragic fires, or natural disasters. The volunteers of this program receive donations, collect, and sort the clothing they are given to over 600 families in the Sussex County.

Harvest Food Program is the largest food pantry in Sussex County, serving more than 350 families every month from their locations in Hampton Township and Ogdesnburg. Food is re-packaged and delivered by SCARC to the homes of needy families.
