World Famous Minerals & More About Ogdensburg

Last month we focused on the fact or fiction history of Ogdensburg . If Charlie Chaplin, Thomas Edison and Babe Ruth ever visited the town or not, we may never know, but something we do know is that Ogdensburg has some great minerals and is quite famous for them. There are minerals found in Ogdensburg that literally exist nowhere else in the world. Franklin for example became famous for “Franklinite”, a mineral discovered by Ben Franklin himself.

If you are curious about this, check out the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. It caters to all types, whether you are a professional, a school student or just want something fun to do with the whole family. It is quoted to be “Like No Other Place on Earth”. This world famous mining museum showcases a world-famous mineral deposit, outside displays of mining machinery and exhibit halls packed with unique items. You can even take an underground mine tour and view glow in the dark fluorescent minerals. The Sterling Hill Mine also has a huge telescope and Astronomical Observatory and offers nightly viewings.

That is pretty impressive if you ask us, you may even say “it rocks”!

Here are some of their events coming up:
