The Importance Of Stuff

There’s a scene in the film Everything Is Illuminated in which the central character glances up to rows of zip lock bags tacked to the wall. Each zip lock bag is labeled with a name, and each contains an item belonging to the person whose name is written there. Ranging from q-tips to priceless jewels, these items helped capture the significance of each character. There’s a truth to this scene: whether we mean for them to or not, the possessions we own help tell our story.

For better or worse, there is a lasting significance, emotional, practical and financial, of possessions. And we know that when the time comes to throw away some of these items, it can bring up some mighty human emotions. Sometimes, it’s unbelievably satisfying to get rid of stuff (a well-positioned bonfire and a pile of letters from an ex-boyfriend. Don’t try this at home.) But other times, downsizing your possessions can feel like you’re losing a piece of your own history (childhood stuffed animals), or missing out on the opportunity to pursue a dream you’ve put on the back burner (that stack of Italian phrase books collecting dust in your den). Sometimes, there isn’t time to meaningfully sort through the sheer multitude of boxes left from a particular chapter in life. Choosing what remains is an important consideration.

This is, in all honesty, the reason we love our jobs here at AA1 Self Storage. We are in the position to help you make that choice more carefully by providing you the opportunity to wait until there’s time to do it well. For however long you may need time, and space, before deciding what happens to it all, we can store your possessions safely, carefully, and efficiently. We’re committed to maintaining the best options for you and will help meet your needs as best as we can. Let us do our job well, and we can make sure you live your life at your own pace. These things matter; and we can help.
