Giving Never Goes Out of Style

As the holiday season ends, people tend to stop giving back when this is the perfect time to donate to charity. With so many new gifts in our possession, our old ones are no longer paid attention to or are even cared about. Below are ideas of certain things that you can get rid of, not only to help the clutter in your house, but also to make someone else’s post-holiday season.

As new clothing comes on, old clothing grows smaller and tossed aside when it should be the first thing in the charity bin. Warm clothes such as coats, hats, scarves, and gloves should never be thrown out or forgotten when they could so easily help block the chill from someone else. Along with the warm clothing, boots and shoes that are no longer in use can also make a difference in the life of someone that can only afford socks. Warm clothing and footwear are the gifts that keep on giving because they rarely ever wear out.

At $5.00 for a onesie, baby clothing is quickly becoming one of the most expensive items on the shopping list. Once your baby outgrows its clothes, instead of throwing it away, help make another baby and family comfortable by donating them. Families with newborns will no longer have to worry about choosing between diapers and clothes when your generous donation is in their home.

Help make someone’s home sweet home even sweeter by donating some of those items as well. Were you the lucky recipient of a new couch or a new kitchen table? Instead of putting these out to the curb, there are plenty of families that could use these items.

Did the Holidays bring in an influx of goodies? Clean out your pantry for a good cause and donate any non-perishable items you can let go of and fill some bellies this Winter.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to receive gifts during the holidays, but with this new year, all of us Sussex County residents can help others with no cost to you. One person’s junk is another’s treasure.
