The Post-Holiday Storage Tips and Tricks You Never Thought Of

The holidays are over and that means that the packing has commenced. We see many of our Ogdensburg, NJ storage customers around this time, and they always want to know the same thing. The best way to safely store their holiday décor to preserve it for years to come.

Packing all your holiday decorations in a way that makes decorating next year easier takes a bit of planning, but is well worth it. There are simple things you can do to make it easier, like packing similar items together (lights, mantel decor, etc.) or pack by room (decorations for living room, dining room, outdoor, etc.). But there are plenty of little tips and tricks we have learned over the years that you may have never thought of.

Trees and Ornaments

If you have an artificial tree and decorate it the same way every year – there’s a bag for that. The TreeKeeper storage bag will need to be stored upright in your unit. Next year all you have to do is take the bag off of it and you’ll have a fully decorated Christmas ready-to-go! No Bag? No problem. Remove ornaments and wrap the tree in kitchen plastic wrap.

Divide your ornaments to protect them from breaking. Ornament chests and storage containers will come with stable dividers to nest each ornament safely. Don’t have dividers? You can use old egg cartons or plastic cups. Leftover tissue paper can also help to provide extra cushioning.

Wreaths and Garland

Artificial wreaths and garlands are best stored in containers. For a large number of wreaths, a great option is to hang wreaths on clothes hangers, cover in plastic trash bags and store on a clothing rack. Garland can be wrapped and stored in an empty trash can. No matter how you store them try to store them above the ground and completely cover them to keep their fresh-looking appearance and dust-free shapes longer.

Wrapping Paper and Supplies

Centralize all your seasonal wrapping paper and accessories with organizers. Gift wrap organizers come in many shapes. One of our favorite ways to store gift wrap rolls is in a hanging garment bag. Ribbon can also be easily organized on a clothes hanger. Plastic storage drawers will make an storable and easily accessible wrapping station for each year. Label each drawer (tags, bows, bags, etc) to keep it organized and easy to find.

Believe us, taking time to get organized now will make your next holiday season the best yet. No matter what you plan on storing, or how long you plan to store it, getting a climate-controlled unit is a smart idea to ensure your items come out of Sparta, NJ storage in the same condition they went in. After all, no one likes soggy cotton snow or cracked crystal stemware.
