How to Preserve and Store Wedding Mementos

Everyone knows that June is the most popular month for weddings- but did you know that October is a close second? Fall weddings are beautiful, but the clutter they leave behind is not quite so enchanting. Whether you just got married or you would like to celebrate your golden anniversary by clearing out some space, our easy storage tips will help you preserve those one-of-a-kind mementos and keep your items safe and sound in your storage unit.
Wedding dresses
  • Get your dress professionally dry cleaned as soon as possible. The longer stains sit the harder they can be to remove.
  • Wrap the dress in acid-free paper
  • Pack veils, shoes, and accessories in with the dress. Wrap each piece individually.
  • Store flat in a sturdy box.
Champagne flutes and fragile items
  • Stuff the flutes with packing paper
  • Wrap in several layers of tissue paper
  • Wrap each flute in bubble wrap
  • Place flutes in a box, stuff with paper and/or bubble wrap until nothing rattles when the box is gently shaken, and tape box shut.
Wedding portraits
  • If you received your photos on a CD, back them up by transferring to your computer and saving to a cloud service such as Dropbox.
  • Burn additional CDs and store in jewel cases in a cool, dry place (hmm we know of one…)
Greeting cards
Turn all of those wedding cards into a pretty book that you c an flip through in just a few steps. No crafting superpowers required.
  • Use a two-hole punch to punch a hole in each card in the upper left hand corner.
  • Thread a binder clip or ribbon through each hole.
  • Tie a ribbon around the stack of cards.
With these tips in mind, your wedding keepsakes will be beautifully preserved for you to look back on and share with generations to come. We would be honored to house your precious memories at AA-1 Self Storage.
