‘Tis the Season of Holiday Decoration Storage

When the sad time comes to put away the white lights and beautiful holiday decorations, you want to make sure that you take the time to do it right! You do not want to have the surprise next year of finding your favorite ornaments broken because they were not stored with enough protection or were placed under a heavy box. Here are a few tips to help you store your decorations away.

When they are purchased, artificial Christmas trees are tucked away so snuggly in their original boxes. Trying to get those babies back in said boxes is not quite as simple as you would expect. If it did not come with a storage bag, purchase a new one that will fit all the pieces of the tree. You could purchase one bag for the entire tree, or look for different sized bags for the separate parts. This will keep the limbs from being pulled out or irreparably bent out of place. Consider getting storage bags for your wreaths, too. These bags come in many sizes to help you effectively store your faux greenery.

If you haven’t already, invest in plastic bins that provide more structure than flimsy cardboard boxes. While they could still be crushed if stacked under heavy items, which you want to be careful not to do, they will give more protection to your glass ornaments or serving dishes. You would have to try hard to overwrap these fragile items (and no, I’m not just talking about the Italian ones), so don’t worry about overdoing it!

We all love the tangled Christmas lights and the opportunities they give us to grow in patience…not.  To remember how long the strands are, use some masking tape to label the length of the strands, or if they had any lights out and you made the executive decision to take care of it next year. Wrap the individual strands around pieces of cardboard so that they won’t tangle with other strands.

Remember, in all things, label your boxes! If at the beginning of the next season you only want to start with your wreaths, don’t make it a necessity for you to open every box to figure out where those darn wreaths are. Taking extra steps now will give you peace of mind when all the fun starts over again next year. We would love to keep your holiday Sussex County storage items safe and sound.
