Lake Mohawk German Christmas Market

The Lake Mohawk German Christmas Market was the place to be on December 6th and 7th. The place was filled with not only food and Germans, but entertainment like never before and people of all ages. A blissful vibe circulated in the air, filling everyone with warmth, despite the winter chill.

When the idea was first started up thirteen years ago, nobody probably thought it would be as popular as it is today. The vendors sold beautifully carved and crafted gifts from near and far, all inspired by German culture, and the German food that was put on the menu is simply to pie for! Authentic, wooden huts and beautiful furniture graced the entire area, and all were crafted by local artisans that inhabit New Jersey. The entire event is a museum, a holiday wonderland, and a family reunion all at once!

A famous celebrity by the name of St. Nicholas joins the tradition each year and brings with him a charming train to surprise the little ones, sign me up! Kids also love the carousel and other numerous games added each year. The best part about the entire event, in my opinion, is the beautiful backdrop of Lake Mohawk glimmering. It adds a peaceful and magical feeling amongst the shoppers and vendors throughout the festival. No matter what mood a visitor is in, they will leave satisfied and at peace after witnessing the amazing beauty before them.

With food, fun, and the sense of nostalgia floating around in the air, it wasn’t easy to forget that everything going on was all for a good cause. All of the profits that are gained during the event each year are donated to the local charities of Sussex County. Not only is the Lake Mohawk German Christmas Market a place for fun, but it is a place for giving and being thankful for the amazing sense of community and family.

Stay tuned for our next blog which will be featuring the History of our German Market!
