The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The hope of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve is that each needy child can receive a shiny new toy at Christmas through their message of hope. They also hope this message of hope will help them grow into “responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.”

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve thinks children are our most valuable natural resource and they want to play an active role in their development. They hope that the community will be united in the cause of bringing joy to all children for Christmas. This helps grow better communities for the future.

How it Works

The main Toys for Tots activities that take place every year are the big collection and distribution drive. Each local Marine Corps Reserve Unit takes care of the collection. For areas without a Reserve Unit that has a Marine Corps League Detachment or group of men and women, generally veteran Marines, become authorized by Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to conduct a local Toys for Tots collection campaign.

There are other fun activities they may sponsor, such as “golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other purely voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots, and concurrently generate toy and monetary donations.”

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has been rated a one of the very best support ratios within the nonprofit world; 98:2. This ratio means that 98% of your donation goes directly to our mission of providing toys, books and other gifts to less fortunate children. The 2% spent on support principally covers fundraising expenses. They are very proud of the fact that “not one donated dollar goes to pay for salaries or any other manpower costs.”
