The Best of Summer in Sussex County, NJ

When we think of childhood Summers, we think of balmy nights chasing fireflies, walking barefoot on hot sand, and hours of fun with the family. Just because we’re adults doesn’t mean we can’t have just as much fun as the kids during our favorite season! There are endless activities you can do in our area this Summer. We’ve rounded up ones for when you’re feeling lazy, when you’re ready for some family fun, or when you’re in search of an adventure. Here is our list of the best summer activities in and around Sussex County, NJ.

Become one with nature at Stokes State Park! Stokes is famous for its impressive beauty, whether it is at the top of a mountain ridge or in the cool and fragrant Tillman Ravine with its rushing stream and steep cliffs. Hikers, campers, fishermen and photographers are attracted to its wild setting. They even offer kayak and paddle board rentals at Lake Ashroe Recreation Area every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for even more fun.

Go camping at Pleasant Acres Farm. Pleasant Acres provides a camping experience that you won’t find anywhere else. That’s because it’s built on a real working farm in North Jersey. You can enjoy Horse Drawn Hayrides and Baby Animal Petting, every weekend throughout the summer season. Enjoy special events like Cow Milking, Sheep Shearing and our famous Pig Chases.

Have some mega-fun with the family at Land of Make Believe. The land of make believe is an amusement and water park “designed for parent participation with children.” In addition to the amusement park rides, there is a train, carousel, outdoor theater with periodic live shows, as well as a water park with slides and a lazy river. Oh, and leave time for the petting zoo. It’s really a great experience for the kids and could easily be overlooked with the flashier attractions.

Go ahead, get wet at Tomahawk Lake Water Park. The park grounds are situated on 200 breathtaking acres that come complete with everything a family could ask for including an 18-hole miniature golf course, rustic outdoor beer garden featuring live music on the weekends, refreshment stands, a souvenir shop, softball field, horseshoe pits and volleyball areas, and we could go on and on. But the best thing about it is the white sand beach featuring a crystal clear 20-acre lake for swimming and boating!

Or, if you are looking for something a little sportier, may we suggest the cool combination of bats and Blizzards. Located at the Dairy Queen Route 94, the self-proclaimed “cages for all ages” is a great place to have a summer party or group get together. They offer four cages, for softball and baseball.  Play by the token, per half hour or hour. Oh, and don’t forget the adjacent Dairy Queen. It’s the perfect batter pick-me-up.

Our Sussex County, NJ storage customers know what we have always known. There is great fun to be had all over the area. So, get out there and live it up this summer.
